Taking part with a caregiver beside you

Many people go through a study with someone at their side. A few simple arrangements make that easier for both of you.

At the start

Bring the person to the consent conversation if you can. A second listener remembers different things, and they can ask the questions you did not think of.

On visit days

Long infusions, eye drops that blur vision and sedation for a procedure can all mean you should not drive home. Ask the team which visits need a driver.

Between visits

A caregiver can help keep a diary, notice side effects you miss and remember when to call the team. Agree in advance who calls if something changes.

Looking after them too

Supporting someone through a study takes time and energy. Ask whether the study helps with a companion’s travel or meals, and share the load where you can.
